The natural wild olive tree of Olympia was found near Gortinia, Arcadia, and the alpine regions of Olimpia-Ilia. When compared to other olive oils in the country, the olive oil made from that particular type is known to have one of the highest percentages of health-promoting oleocanthals and is the richest source of beneficial phenols worldwide. Given that olive trees dating back up to 1500 years have been discovered, the Nemoutiana variety, also known as Horaitiki or, more recently, the Olympia variety, has ancient roots. It is described as the ideal olive oil for use in medicine. It has a spicy, bitter flavour.
